Maxwell R. Anderson Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington (License # PY61166250). He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from St. Olaf College and completed his Master of Science and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology from Howard University. He completed his doctoral internship through the United States Navy at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC. Prior to starting his private practice, Dr. Anderson worked as a Navy psychologist at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
Dr. Anderson prefers an eclectic theoretical approach to therapy based on what fits best for the client. Some of these approaches include utilizing cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic, and solution-oriented theories. Dr. Anderson utilizes respect, curiosity, empathy, humor, and compassion to help his clients explore themselves and move forward with their lives. He leans heavily on a collaborative approach with his clients to develop individualized treatment plans and identify which therapeutic approach might work best for that specific client based on their strengths and personal goals.
Dr. Anderson works with older adolescents and adults, in both individual and couple formats. He has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Dr. Anderson is a generalist and provides treatment for a variety of presenting problems (anxiety, depression, insomnia, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorders, life changes/adjustment issues, and more). He is trained in cognitive processing therapy as well as prolonged exposure for treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as other evidence-based treatment approaches.
